About the Event
HealthCamp Nigeria is a user-generated unconference that brings everyone in and outside health together. The one-day event is an informally-styled open forum, seeking to bring together all people with concerns or interests related to health and healthcare delivery.
According to 2010-WHO Report on Nigeria, 20% of children in the country die before the age of five, primarily from Malaria. Less than one-half of infants are immunized against measles, and malnutrition affects more than 40 percent of children under the age of five. One-third have no access to healthcare simply because they live too far from healthcare centers. Besides, the rate of maternal mortality keeps rising. Many others cannot afford the costs of most medicines, this had made some to fall victim to buying fake drugs and in the long run denying their lives. Thus, on a thoughtful note, health and healthcare delivery in Nigeria is not quite commendable.
HealthCamp Nigeria focuses on exchange of ideas, spurring of innovations, thinking up local initiatives and looking at practical ways to achieve health-related MDGs and improve healthcare in the country.
HealthCamp is also a new movement, led by volunteers focused on using social media, open source and the best of ICT-based technologies -the Internet, mobile web, and process innovation to transform our health care in the country.
Healthcamp brings care receivers, patient advocates & supporters, health consumers, healthcare providers, health industry experts, ICT-professionals, bloggers, the media and policymakers -together for a one day event to interactively exchange ideas informally.
Participants at the event provide the content. With break-out sessions they develop themselves and plug into a schedule grid on the day of the event. Anyone can present and host a session in nearly any format.
HealthCamp Nigeria is co-ordinated by HealthCamp Foundation, USA. The foundation is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is empowered health and wellness engagement. HealthCamp Foundation set to achieve this by helping the local organizing body in the country setup and run HealthCamp events across Nigeria. Interested event volunteers are gladly appreciated.
