Keith Boone aka @motorcycle_guy will be coming to HealthCamp Boston!
Keith, please tell us a little about your day job.
I’m a Standards Geek for GE Healthcare. I represent the company to a number of different standards and related organizations, including HL7, IHE and the ONC S&I Framework projects (among others). I also teach the standards internally and externally, and promote the use of these standards in the industry.
What are you passionate about?
I love my job. Basically, I get to design and help people to implement standards and technology that changes lives. The impact is huge. Many years ago, I used to develop software that was used by just about everyone (spelling correction), and is still in use around the globe. That’s not nearly as interesting as working on standards for healthcare. If I do my job right, millions (even billions) of people will live longer and healthier lives. Who cares about a few spelling mistakes when you can have that kind of impact.
What are you doing to “hack” health care?
Whatever I can. I write code, comment on federal regulations, teach standards, and even blog about them (almost daily).
Why are you attending HealthCamp Boston?
I know several of the people who are attending, and I’ve heard of many others. I expect it to be quite an innovative group of people, and I hope to get some interesting insights.
If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?
Either IT Standards, or the new Meaningful Use rules.
What kinds of people do you want to meet at HealthCamp?
New ones.
