Please tell us a little about your day job.
I am a research scientist at the Center for Connected Health. I am responsible for writing grant proposals to fund new and ongoing research, create a research protocol, project management, statistical analysis, and publishing research results.
What are you passionate about?
I am trained as a medical sociologist. I am broadly interested in how technology impacts people’s lives. More specifically, how the Internet and new information and communication technology can be used to improve healthcare and the potential to reduce health disparities, or increase disparities for some groups that lack access and skills.
What are you doing (or would like to do) to “hack” health care?
Improve patient participation in the design of technology-based healthcare solutions and participatory health research.
Why are you attending HealthCamp Boston?
To meet people in the Boston area who are interested in understanding and making a positive contribution to changing healthcare in the US and globally.
If you were to lead a session, what would it be about?
We hear everyday about the potential positive effects of using technology to improve healthcare systems. I sometimes like to remind people that there are also a range of potential negative effects that should be considered to ensure systems are designed and implemented in ways that benefit everyone and ideally, can help to reduce health disparities.
What kinds of people do you want to meet at HealthCamp?
Everyone and anyone interested in the transformation of healthcare!
